Today in class we picked up A LOT of papers…….

We began with some notes on the Enlightenment – specifically ideas from John Locke. These ideas will be plagiarized from Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence! We went over these ideas (natural rights, consent of the governed, and social contract) and then found where we saw them in the Declaration of Independence (ex: natural rights = unalienable rights).

To close class, we examined our writing assignment – a “break up letter” that explains why the colonies split with the British. The graphic organizer (or outline) for the essay is due on Thursday. The letter itself is due Tuesday, October 4.
